Snapchat, Instagram and now Whatsapp?

If anyone hasn’t heard the great, but not so great news, then you might have missed out on the fact Whatsapp have now added ‘Stories’. Whatsapp Stories is the new feature that’s been added to your status area on your application, which allows you to record yet another life blogging moment in your life. Brilliant, but why?!

When social media platforms first launched, they had a purpose and this is why so many uses the platforms to convey their message across. Now it seems, you have three platforms, that literally do the same thing, but in their own way. Make sense? No!? Well lets break it down to you…

Snapchat was brought to give you those moments via video, which was original and probably the greatest thing to happen. It allowed the world to connect in a 10 second or less video, anywhere around the world at any time. Then Instagram jumped on the bandwagon and added their version of Snapchat to the social media platform, but wasn’t Instagram picture based only? This is what separated the two and allowed users to multi-channel their message across platforms in the form of images and videos. It feels like what was original has now become a norm for platforms as they seek to capture the remaining population to use own version of ‘Video Stories’.

Now Whatsapp have joined the Video Stories’ war, it feels like users will only get confused or annoyed, as they have chosen between three networks to put their messages across in similar fashion. It’s annoying we feel for many, as how do you choose between the three?

We’ll keep you updated on our thoughts, but so far… we’ll stick to what all three do best originally. Instagram for our images, Snapchat for those moments and Whatsapp to keep in contact with who we need.
